Blake Woods grew up on the lakes of the appropriately named Waterford, Michigan. While studying advertising and public relations at Michigan State University, an internship at Lake Trust was the entry point to the Credit Union industry. Woods has worn many hats during his 8+ years in cooperatives including new media, public relations, and e-commerce management.
In 2012, Woods was chosen to lead the Lake Trust Value Lab, a cross-functional product innovation team. A year later, he was selected to Crash both the GAC and big.bright.minds events. In 2014, Woods was assigned to the newly formed Strategic Innovation Department at Lake Trust. In 2015, Woods was selected to be part of the Filene Research Group’s renowned i3 program, a group of next generation leaders aiming to deliver solutions to consumer finance’s most flummoxing problems. Woods is an alumnus of the Members Development Company’s Innovation Council, winning their inaugural Most Valuable Innovator award in 2016. In 2018, Woods was certified as a Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE) by the National Credit Union Foundation.
At Lake Trust, Woods manages the company ideation portal, which collaboratively produces process improvement, product, and employee engagement ideas. Woods is an adjunct facilitator in Lake Trust’s internal university, teaching courses on personal branding, disruptive trends, and emerging markets.
Outside the office, Woods is an avid hockey player and snowboarder. He enjoys bluegrass music, boating, and exploring Northern Michigan and Canada with his dog Wallace. You can follow him on twitter @blakebwoods
